What you will achieve in this guide

EXPECTED SETUP TIME Varies by feature
COMPATIBILITY See requirements in this guide
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY Zero Code Required

Cart and checkout links prefill selected variants and quantities for campaigns or individual buyers.

How this feature works

Cart links open a prefilled cart; checkout links open checkout with the selected variants and quantities. Optional codes must already exist and remain eligible. Links do not reserve inventory, bypass validation, or automatically submit payment. Keep personal customer-prefill details out of public campaign links.

Before you begin

Open Apps > Rivio Checkout Customizer in the intended store. Prepare the cart, customer, products, address, or order needed by the example, and check the feature’s supported inputs before activating it.

Example setup: Demo T-shirt, Blue / Medium variant; an existing eligible SAVE10 discount code.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open Cart & checkout links and create a link named Blue shirt x2.

  2. Select the exact Blue / Medium variant and set quantity to 2. Review the variant rather than relying on the product title.

  3. Choose Cart link for a cart-review destination, or Checkout link for a direct checkout destination; use the type named in this article.

  4. Enter SAVE10 only after creating and testing that code in Shopify. Leave personal-prefill fields blank for a publicly shared demo.

  5. Save and copy the generated link. Open it in a fresh session and verify both the destination and cart contents.

  6. For a private customer-prefill example, enter a test customer email and test address, generate a separate link, and keep it out of public campaigns.

Verify the result

Test case Expected result or verification
Generated link The selected variant and quantity 2 appear at the chosen destination.
Eligible SAVE10 checkout Shopify applies the existing code according to its rules.
Code expired or item unavailable The link does not bypass eligibility or inventory checks.

Important: For this customer-prefill article, also verify the email, address, and note fields in checkout. Use fictitious test data in demonstrations.

If the result is different

Check What it means / what to do
Wrong item/quantity Review the exact selected variant and generated URL, then test a fresh session.
Code not accepted Check that the code exists, is active, and is eligible for the current cart/customer.
Tracked campaign link differs Test the final email/ad/social redirect, not only the original untracked URL.
