How to Create Automatic Discounts in Shopify with Rivio Checkout Customizer

Automatic discount rules reduce eligible product, order, or shipping charges when their configured conditions match.

How this feature works

Choose the discount class according to the charge you want to reduce: selected products, the eligible order amount, or an eligible shipping rate. Eligibility conditions are separate from the benefit. Existing Shopify discount-combination rules still apply when another offer or code is present.

Before you begin

Open Apps > Rivio Checkout Customizer in the intended store. Prepare the cart, customer, products, address, or order needed by the example, and check the feature’s supported inputs before activating it.

Worked example: Select the discount class before configuring the offer

Example setup: Demo T-shirt $20 and Standard shipping $5 in a USD test checkout.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open Discounts & upsells and choose product, order, or shipping discount according to the benefit.

  2. For an item promotion, select Demo T-shirt and enter a supported 10% product discount.

  3. For a basket promotion, use an order discount with a fixed $5 amount and the required order-value condition.

  4. For delivery savings, choose a shipping discount and target Standard; use 100% for free shipping.

  5. Add eligibility, schedule, and supported combination settings in the chosen form; save and activate.

  6. Inspect checkout’s discount allocation on the product, order, or shipping charge rather than relying only on the rule name.

Verify the result

Test case Expected result or verification
$20 eligible item with 10% product discount A $2 item reduction before other applicable adjustments.
Eligible order discount The order-level benefit appears according to its rule.
Shipping discount The delivery charge receives the reduction, not the product price.

If the result is different

Check What it means / what to do
Benefit missing Confirm the saved Active discount, eligible product/order/rate, schedule, and amount basis.
Works alone but not with another offer Check Shopify’s combination eligibility and the discount’s settings.
Threshold seems wrong Compare below, exactly at, and above the configured operator using the stated currency and total basis.
