How to Create an Automatic Shipping Discount in Shopify

Automatic discount rules reduce eligible product, order, or shipping charges when their configured conditions match.

How this feature works

Choose the discount class according to the charge you want to reduce: selected products, the eligible order amount, or an eligible shipping rate. Eligibility conditions are separate from the benefit. Existing Shopify discount-combination rules still apply when another offer or code is present.

Before you begin

Open Apps > Rivio Checkout Customizer in the intended store. Prepare the cart, customer, products, address, or order needed by the example, and check the feature’s supported inputs before activating it.

Worked example: Offer free Standard shipping above $75

Example setup: A USD checkout with a paid Standard shipping rate and an eligible alternative rate.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open Discounts & upsells and choose Shipping discounts.

  2. Create a rule named Free Standard over 75; select Standard as the target shipping method.

  3. Set the supported percentage discount to 100%. This makes that eligible rate free.

  4. Add the amount condition greater than 75 using the total basis shown in this form. Check USD as the example currency.

  5. Review combinations and schedule, save, and confirm the discount is Active in Rivio and Shopify.

  6. Test the Standard rate and a different rate, inspecting the actual shipping discount at checkout.

Verify the result

Test case Expected result or verification
$75 eligible amount No discount under this strictly greater-than example.
$76 eligible amount with Standard The Standard shipping charge is reduced to zero.
$76 with an untargeted Express rate This Standard-only rule does not make Express free.

Important: Use greater than or equal to if your promise is “$75 and above.” Shipping eligibility and taxes still follow Shopify settings.

If the result is different

Check What it means / what to do
Benefit missing Confirm the saved Active discount, eligible product/order/rate, schedule, and amount basis.
Works alone but not with another offer Check Shopify’s combination eligibility and the discount’s settings.
Threshold seems wrong Compare below, exactly at, and above the configured operator using the stated currency and total basis.
