How PromoLock Allow Lists, Block Lists, and Stacking Work
What you will achieve in this guide
Follow the feature-specific setup and testing instructions below. Check the supported pages and plan requirements before activating the feature.
PromoLock code comparisons are case-insensitive. Allow-listed codes bypass the other blocking rules, so keep allow/block lists clear and test allowed, blocked, and stacking cases separately.
How this feature works
Choose the discount class according to the charge you want to reduce: selected products, the eligible order amount, or an eligible shipping rate. Eligibility conditions are separate from the benefit. Existing Shopify discount-combination rules still apply when another offer or code is present.
Before you begin
Use an eligible Shopify Plus store. Open Apps > Rivio Checkout Customizer and check the feature’s listed supported page. For a visual feature, configure it in Rivio and save its matching editor placement.
Worked example: Allow a partner code while controlling other codes
Example setup: Shopify Plus; existing valid codes PARTNER10 and SAVE10; PromoLock placed at checkout.
Step-by-step instructions
Open Order validations & discount controls > PromoLock and enable the intended blocking options.
For a clear allow-list example, enable Block all codes and put PARTNER10 on its own allow-list line.
Keep PARTNER10 out of the block list. Code comparisons are case-insensitive and allow-listed codes bypass the other blocking rules.
Enter an actionable message such as This promotion cannot use that code. Please remove it to continue.
Save as Active, add the matching checkout block in Shopify’s editor, and save the editor.
Test PARTNER10, partner10, and SAVE10. In a separate scenario, test a supported stacking cap with valid combinable non-allow-listed codes around its boundary.
Verify the result
| Test case | Expected result or verification |
|---|---|
| PARTNER10 and partner10 | The allow-list treats both spellings the same and bypasses blocking. |
| SAVE10 under Block all codes | The block message appears. |
| Stacking-cap scenario | Use valid combinable codes; Shopify’s own rejection of incompatible codes is a separate result. |
Important: Allow-list precedence also applies to other blocking rules. PromoLock does not create codes or define Shopify’s discount-combination permissions.
If the result is different
| Check | What it means / what to do |
|---|---|
| Allowed code blocked | Check one-code-per-line entries, case-insensitive matching, and the actual configured allow list. |
| Unexpected bypass | Allow-listed codes bypass the other blocking rules; keep the lists unambiguous. |
| Stacking test inconclusive | Use otherwise valid combinable codes; Shopify’s own combination rejection is separate from PromoLock. |
