How to Create Conditional Discount Rules in Shopify

Automatic discount rules reduce eligible product, order, or shipping charges when their configured conditions match.

How this feature works

Choose the discount class according to the charge you want to reduce: selected products, the eligible order amount, or an eligible shipping rate. Eligibility conditions are separate from the benefit. Existing Shopify discount-combination rules still apply when another offer or code is present.

Before you begin

Open Apps > Rivio Checkout Customizer in the intended store. Prepare the cart, customer, products, address, or order needed by the example, and check the feature’s supported inputs before activating it.

Worked example: Require both an amount and a customer condition

Example setup: A 10% selected-product promotion for logged-in wholesale customers above a $50 eligible amount.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Create the product discount and select the intended product and 10% benefit.

  2. Add customer tag wholesale and the supported eligible-amount condition greater than 50.

  3. Choose all/AND if this form offers a group matching control, so both conditions are required.

  4. Review scope, combinations, and schedule; save and activate.

  5. Test a tagged customer above $50, the same customer below it, and an untagged customer above it.

  6. Compare results before introducing any additional condition.

Verify the result

Test case Expected result or verification
Tagged customer above $50 Both conditions match and the selected-product benefit applies.
Tagged customer below $50 The amount condition fails.
Untagged customer above $50 The customer condition fails.

Important: Any/OR would broaden this example to buyers meeting only one condition. Use only the condition controls available in this discount module.

If the result is different

Benefit missing Confirm the saved Active discount, eligible product/order/rate, schedule, and amount basis.
Works alone but not with another offer Check Shopify’s combination eligibility and the discount’s settings.
Threshold seems wrong Compare below, exactly at, and above the configured operator using the stated currency and total basis.
