Upsell campaigns recommend products during checkout or on the Thank you and Order status pages.

How this feature works

A trigger product determines who qualifies for an offer; the offer product is the recommendation the buyer can purchase. Configure the campaign in Rivio and place its matching block on the intended Shopify page. Checkout, Thank you, and Order status are separate surfaces with separate testing flows.

Before you begin

Open Apps > Rivio Checkout Customizer in the intended store. Prepare the cart, customer, products, address, or order needed by the example, and check the feature’s supported inputs before activating it.

Worked example: Require a trigger product and an additional offer condition

Example setup: Demo T-shirt as the trigger; Demo Bottle $20 as the offer; an eligible store and target page.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open the upsell module for your intended surface: Checkout upsell on Plus, or Thank you / Order status upsell for a supported post-checkout page.

  2. Create a campaign named T-shirt to Bottle. Under Trigger conditions choose Specific products and select Demo T-shirt.

  3. Under Upsell products choose Specific products and add Demo Bottle. These are different selections: buying the shirt qualifies the buyer; the bottle is the recommendation.

  4. Add one additional supported eligibility condition, for example a relevant amount greater than $50 if the form offers that condition. Use all/AND where offered to require both the selected trigger product and the amount. Check the amount basis and currency.

  5. Set a supported Offer incentive to 10% and review whether Apply discount on each item is enabled. For a single $20 bottle, the illustrative offer reduction is $2.

  6. Enter Complete your kit as the headline. Review multiple quantities, hide-already-in-cart, and hide-widget-after-add options shown for this surface.

  7. Set the intended Show on page, a distinct Priority such as 0, and Active status; save.

  8. Add the matching upsell block on that exact page in Shopify’s editor and save. Checkout-step offers require Plus.

  9. For checkout, start with the shirt in the cart. For Thank you, complete a shirt order. For Order status, revisit that completed order and follow the offer’s displayed purchase action.

Verify the result

Test case Expected result or verification
Shirt present and relevant amount above $50 Both conditions match, so the placed active campaign can display.
Shirt present but amount below the boundary The amount condition fails.
Amount above $50 but shirt absent The trigger-product condition fails.

Important: Use only conditions exposed by your selected campaign editor. If the additional amount condition is unavailable there, choose a supported condition and test that input instead.

If the result is different

Check What it means / what to do
Nothing appears Check campaign/rule status, target surface, trigger inputs, available products, and saved editor placement.
A different offer appears Inspect matching campaigns; the lowest Priority number takes precedence.
An offer disappears after adding an item Check hide-already-added and hide-after-acceptance behavior before creating a duplicate campaign.
