How to Set a Minimum Order Value on Shopify Checkout
What you will achieve in this guide
Follow the feature-specific setup and testing instructions below. Check the supported pages and plan requirements before activating the feature.
Order validation rules prevent checkout when a cart or buyer matches a disallowed condition, and show a message explaining how to continue.
How this feature works
A validation describes an invalid checkout state and shows an actionable error when that state matches. Checkout completion evaluates at Pay now; Checkout interaction can provide earlier evaluation when selected. Active status, schedule, and run location all matter. A rule with no conditions can affect every checkout.
Before you begin
Open Apps > Rivio Checkout Customizer in the intended store. Prepare the cart, customer, products, address, or order needed by the example, and check the feature’s supported inputs before activating it.
Worked example: Require at least $30 without blocking the boundary
Example setup: USD cart amounts measured using the rule editor’s stated basis.
Step-by-step instructions
Create an Order validation named Minimum order 30.
Choose the appropriate supported cart/order amount input and confirm its basis and USD context.
Set less than 30 as the invalid-case condition, not greater than or equal to 30.
Write Add items until your order reaches $30 to continue and choose a supported message location.
Review schedule, choose Checkout completion, save, and activate.
Test 29.99, 30, and 30.01 on that same basis and confirm correcting the cart removes this error.
Verify the result
| Test case | Expected result or verification |
|---|---|
| $29.99 | Blocked by this rule. |
| $30 | Allowed by this minimum-value rule. |
| $30.01 | Allowed by this rule, subject to other checkout requirements. |
Important: Shipping, taxes, and discounts can affect totals. Use the amount definition actually shown by the module.
If the result is different
| Check | What it means / what to do |
|---|---|
| Never fires | Check Active status, included dates/days, matching invalid inputs, and Run location. |
| Blocks everyone | Inspect empty conditions or an overly broad any/OR branch. |
| Still blocks after correction | Retest the same amount/product/address basis and review other active validations. |
