How to set a maximum order value
What you will achieve in this guide
Follow the feature-specific setup and testing instructions below. Check the supported pages and plan requirements before activating the feature.
Prevent checkout when the supported eligible amount exceeds your configured maximum.
When to use this guide
Use this for a genuine store policy limiting a single purchase amount.
Before you begin
Open Apps → Rivio Checkout Customizer in the intended store. Use supported conditions from the current editor and record the exact amount, product, customer, or address basis before testing.
Worked example
Set a $500 maximum using the exact amount basis exposed by the validation editor.
Step-by-step instructions
- Create an Order validation named Maximum order 500.
- Select the supported amount input and set greater than 500 as the invalid condition. Record the currency and amount basis.
- Write Your order must be $500 or less to continue as the actionable error message.
- Choose the supported message location, schedule, and Checkout completion run location.
- Save and activate, then test $499.99, $500, and $500.01 on that same basis.
- Reduce an invalid cart to the permitted amount and confirm this error no longer blocks it.

Verify the result
| Test | Expected result or check |
|---|---|
| $499.99 | $500 maximum is not exceeded. |
| $500 | A strictly greater-than invalid rule does not match. |
| $500.01 | The active rule blocks at its configured run location. |
Screenshot to add: Boundary checkouts showing blocked and corrected outcomes.
Limitations
- The condition describes the invalid state, not the permitted state.
- Other active validations may still block a corrected cart.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| The expected result does not appear | Check the saved state, exact feature configuration, supported page, and matching test inputs. |
| The preview and actual page differ | Use a real test checkout, completed order, or signed-in account; editor data is simulated. |
| A change has an unexpected effect | Repeat the same test with one relevant setting changed. Review other active rules before adding another copy. |
