Using Customer Tags When You Do Not Use Shopify B2B

What you will achieve in this guide

Follow this step-by-step documentation to configure custom B2B registration forms, approval workflows, and customer tagging.

EXPECTED SETUP TIME 5-10 Minutes
COMPATIBILITY All Shopify Themes & Plans
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY Zero Code Required

Use Shopify customer tags for a wholesale onboarding workflow without enabling automatic B2B company creation.

Before you begin

Review the form’s questions, saved approval settings, and active rule order. Have controlled applications ready for matching and nonmatching cases. Check Shopify B2B availability separately before enabling company creation.

Use tagging without company onboarding

You can collect applications and tag approved Shopify customers without enabling Create Shopify B2B company. This suits a workflow where an independently configured pricing, access, or content solution reads customer tags.

Choose the approval tag expected by that solution and test with a controlled customer. The app does not invent wholesale pricing from a tag; verify the tag's effect in your separate configuration after approval.

Set up this workflow

  1. Open the form’s Advanced settings.

  2. Turn off Create Shopify B2B company.

  3. Enter the customer approval tags required by your workflow.

  4. Configure manual review or approval rules and save.

  5. Approve a test applicant and inspect the Shopify customer’s tags.

  6. Verify your separate pricing, access, or content solution recognizes those tags as intended.

Example

Disable company creation and configure demo-wholesale as the approval tag. Approve a test application on a store using tag-based wholesale access.

Expected result

The customer receives the tag without a B2B company; any access or pricing logic must be configured separately.

Limits and important behavior

  • The app does not automatically implement wholesale pricing simply by tagging a customer.
  • Customer-segment creation is available but is a separate settings action.
  • Shopify catalogs and company pricing remain separate configuration tasks.

Troubleshooting and verification

If a decision differs from your policy, inspect the first matching active rule and its All/Any setting. If the decision is correct but access is missing, inspect the linked customer tags and any separate catalog or pricing configuration.

Screenshots to add

Screenshot placeholder: Capture the relevant app screen for “Using Customer Tags When You Do Not Use Shopify B2B” after completing the setup. Show the controls used to open the form’s Advanced settings. Add a second screenshot showing the result of this check: Verify your separate pricing, access, or content solution recognizes those tags as intended. Use dummy applicant details and mask any secrets.
