Understanding Location Admin and Ordering-Only Permissions
What you will achieve in this guide
Follow this step-by-step documentation to configure custom B2B registration forms, approval workflows, and customer tagging.
Choose the supported role for an approved applicant’s contact when creating a Shopify B2B company.
Before you begin
Review the form’s questions, saved approval settings, and active rule order. Have controlled applications ready for matching and nonmatching cases. Check Shopify B2B availability separately before enabling company creation.
Buyer roles are separate from app team roles
B2B ordering access determines the company contact role assigned during optional company creation. Ordering only is for a buyer who needs ordering access; Location admin is the broader location role. Verify the resulting permissions in Shopify for your intended buyer responsibilities.
These are customer/company roles, not Owner, Staff, or Read-only inside Rivio. Changing a buyer's role is not a fix for a Shopify staff member who cannot open the app or access an assigned form.
Example
On a suitable B2B test store, create two controlled applicants and compare Location admin with Ordering only for their contact role.
Expected result
Each contact has the intended permission role, which must be verified in Shopify before using the workflow with buyers.
Limits and important behavior
- These roles apply to buyer contacts, not your store’s staff roles.
- Shopify controls the capabilities and availability of its B2B roles.
- Do not grant a broader role solely to troubleshoot an unrelated form issue.
Troubleshooting and verification
If an approved buyer’s company permissions differ from expectations, inspect the contact role selected for the form and the created location/contact in Shopify. Do not use a broader role merely to bypass missing catalog or payment-term configuration.
