What Happens When You Reject or Reopen a Previously Approved Application

What you will achieve in this guide

Follow this step-by-step documentation to configure custom B2B registration forms, approval workflows, and customer tagging.

EXPECTED SETUP TIME 5-10 Minutes
COMPATIBILITY All Shopify Themes & Plans
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY Zero Code Required

Review the effects of rejecting or reopening an approved Shopify wholesale application before changing its status.

Before you begin

Review the form’s questions, saved approval settings, and active rule order. Have controlled applications ready for matching and nonmatching cases. Check Shopify B2B availability separately before enabling company creation.

How the two actions differ

Reopen returns an application to Pending for another review. Reject records a declined decision and can send an applicant-facing reason. For a previously approved application, rejection also removes the app-added tags and deletes the app-created company.

Record the existing links and tags before performing a reversal. Reapproving a reopened application reuses its company rather than creating another. Do not assume these actions remove the Shopify customer or undo every action in external systems.

Example

Use a disposable application that was previously approved. Record the app-added tag and company link before rejecting it. Demonstrate reopening separately.

Expected result

Rejection removes the app's approval effects as documented; reopening returns the record to Pending and must not be confused with a fresh approval.

Limits and important behavior

  • Rejecting an approved applicant can remove app-added tags and delete the app-created company.
  • Do not assume the app deletes the Shopify customer.
  • The documented reopen behavior is not a claim that every prior approval effect is reversed.

Troubleshooting and verification

If reversing a decision changes access unexpectedly, compare the app-added tags and app-created company before and after the action. Reopen means Pending, while rejection has removal effects. Do not use a real buyer’s records to experiment with reversing approval.

Screenshots to add

Screenshot placeholder: Capture the app screen or test result described in “What Happens When You Reject or Reopen a Previously Approved Application”. Include the relevant saved settings and the example outcome so readers can connect the explanation to the interface. Use dummy applicant details and mask any secrets.
