How to Create a Shopify B2B Company on Approval
What you will achieve in this guide
Follow this step-by-step documentation to configure custom B2B registration forms, approval workflows, and customer tagging.
Create a Shopify B2B company with one location and the applicant as a contact when a registration application is approved.
Before you begin
Review the form’s questions, saved approval settings, and active rule order. Have controlled applications ready for matching and nonmatching cases. Check Shopify B2B availability separately before enabling company creation.
What company creation includes
When enabled for an appropriate Shopify B2B setup, approval can create a company, one location, and an applicant contact with the selected ordering role. Collect the required business and contact information before approving.
This is basic onboarding, not complete B2B account configuration. Catalogs, price lists, payment terms, and tax exemptions are separate Shopify tasks. Submitted tax ID, phone, and website remain on the submission under the documented company-field limitations.
Reference and examples
| App onboarding | Finish separately |
|---|---|
| Company, one location, applicant contact | Catalogs and price lists |
| Configured contact role | Payment terms |
| Approval tags on customer | Tax exemptions and pricing/access policy |
Set up this workflow
Open the form and review Company and Customer contact fields.
Open Settings → Advanced → After approval.
Enable Create Shopify B2B company when your store supports the required Shopify B2B resources.
Choose the B2B ordering access role and review approval tags.
Save and approve a new test application.
Open the linked Shopify company and inspect its location and contact.
Example
On a store with Shopify B2B available, collect Company and Customer information and enable company creation for a test form. Approve the application and inspect its company link.
Expected result
The company, location, and contact are created according to the configured behavior; catalogs and payment terms need separate Shopify setup.
Limits and important behavior
- The app creates basic company, location, and contact records; it does not assign catalogs, price lists, payment terms, or tax exemptions.
- Submitted tax ID, phone, and website remain on the submission under the documented limitations.
- Verify Shopify plan and resource availability instead of assuming the app’s Free plan unlocks Shopify B2B.
Troubleshooting and verification
If the customer exists but the company does not, inspect whether company creation is enabled, required business details are present, and Shopify exposes the needed B2B resources. The app’s Free plan does not unlock Shopify features restricted by the merchant’s plan.
