Offer COD without an upfront deposit
Offer a pure COD choice alongside deposit or full-payment choices.
Before you start
Open Features → COD verification → Payment options in your store. Use the current saved configuration and a controlled test cart. For storefront features, confirm the Rivio theme app embed is enabled on the theme being tested.
Step-by-step instructions
- Create or edit a payment option.
- Choose the pure COD or no-upfront-payment amount type offered by the form.
- Enter a clear internal name and customer-facing description.
- Set eligibility conditions for the offer.
- Confirm that the Shopify COD method and any required COD shipping rate are configured.
- Save and test the complete COD checkout path.
Screenshot to add: Features → COD verification → Payment options — show the relevant settings described above. Hide customer details, contact blocklists and verification codes.
Example and use case
A customer chooses to pay on delivery instead of paying a 30% deposit. A separately configured COD shipping fee may still apply.
Limitations and important behaviour
- Zero upfront payment is not a free order; the customer still owes the applicable order amount.
- This option does not create the Shopify COD method.
- Do not use payment-option eligibility as a claim that all COD access is blocked for non-matching carts.
Test and confirm the result
Confirm the upfront amount, delivery amount, fee and actual payment method on a test order.
Save configuration changes before testing. A settings preview confirms presentation; inspect the storefront, checkout or Shopify order for the actual outcome described in this guide.
