Collect a percentage of the cart upfront
Offer a deposit calculated as a percentage of the eligible cart amount.
Before you start
Open Features → COD verification → Payment options → Amount to collect now in your store. Use the current saved configuration and a controlled test cart. For storefront features, confirm the Rivio theme app embed is enabled on the theme being tested.
Step-by-step instructions
- Create or edit a payment option.
- Select Percentage of cart under Amount type.
- Enter Percentage to collect now, such as 30.
- Set any required cart, product or postal-code conditions.
- Write a clear description of the upfront and delivery amounts.
- Save and inspect the preview, then test checkout and the resulting balance.
Screenshot to add: Features → COD verification → Payment options → Amount to collect now — show the relevant settings described above. Hide customer details, contact blocklists and verification codes.
Example and use case
For an illustrative 1000 cart with no discount, tax or shipping adjustment, a 30% option collects 300 upfront and leaves 700 for delivery.
Limitations and important behaviour
- The simple example excludes discounts, tax and shipping; compare the actual checkout totals.
- The popup tax note changes wording, not the payment split.
- An upfront percentage is not a percentage-based COD shipping surcharge.
Test and confirm the result
Test at least two cart totals and confirm both the upfront charge and remaining balance in Shopify.
Save configuration changes before testing. A settings preview confirms presentation; inspect the storefront, checkout or Shopify order for the actual outcome described in this guide.
