Collect a fixed deposit upfront
Offer a specified deposit amount rather than a percentage.
Before you start
Open Features → COD verification → Payment options → Amount to collect now in your store. Use the current saved configuration and a controlled test cart. For storefront features, confirm the Rivio theme app embed is enabled on the theme being tested.
Step-by-step instructions
- Create a payment option.
- Choose the fixed-amount option in Amount type.
- Enter the amount to collect now in the store currency.
- Use an appropriate minimum cart value so small carts do not receive an unsuitable offer.
- Explain the deposit and remaining balance in the description.
- Save and test carts around the minimum value.
Screenshot to add: Features → COD verification → Payment options → Amount to collect now — show the relevant settings described above. Hide customer details, contact blocklists and verification codes.
Example and use case
On an illustrative 1000 cart, a fixed deposit of 200 leaves 800 before any separate adjustments.
Limitations and important behaviour
- Do not assume how an amount greater than the cart total is handled; use sensible eligibility and test the boundary.
- A fixed deposit is separate from the COD shipping rate price.
- Actual tax, shipping and discount treatment must be checked at checkout.
Test and confirm the result
Test one eligible cart, one below the minimum and one close to the deposit amount.
Save configuration changes before testing. A settings preview confirms presentation; inspect the storefront, checkout or Shopify order for the actual outcome described in this guide.
