How to Configure Exit-Intent and Timed Popups

Open a Shopify registration form on exit intent or after a chosen delay using the Wholesale form block’s popup modes.

Before you begin

Save and publish the form, copy its exact slug, and identify the theme and page template you will edit. Check whether other pages share that template before adding or moving its app block.

Two different automatic triggers

Timed mode opens after a configured delay in seconds. Exit-intent mode responds to the visitor's exit behavior where that interaction is supported. They are alternatives to inline display or a manually selected popup button.

Test each mode separately with the intended slug. Desktop exit behavior should not be assumed to work identically on touch devices. Give visitors a reasonable delay and a clear way to close the form.

Set up this workflow

  1. Open the Wholesale form block in the theme editor.

  2. Enter the correct published form slug.

  3. Choose Popup — exit intent or Popup — timed from the display mode controls.

  4. For a timed popup, set the delay in seconds.

  5. Save the theme and open a fresh storefront visit for testing.

  6. Verify the chosen trigger opens the correct form and that visitors can close it.

Example

Test timed and exit-intent modes separately. For timed mode, use a 10-second delay and observe a fresh page visit. Check exit intent on a desktop session without assuming mouse behavior on mobile.

Expected result

The selected trigger opens the correct form under the tested conditions.

Limits and important behavior

  • Exit-intent behavior can differ by device and pointer interaction.
  • Avoid interrupting customers with an unnecessarily short delay.
  • The popup trigger is separate from field validation and approval rules.

Troubleshooting and verification

If a popup does not appear, verify the saved display mode and delay and test the actual storefront page. Exit-intent detection depends on a leaving signal and should not be your only mobile access route. Offer a visible application page or button where needed.
