Configure the fallback when no payment option applies
Explain why a deposit offer is unavailable without blocking the shopper unnecessarily.
Before you start
Open Settings → Payment step → When no option applies in your store. Use the current saved configuration and a controlled test cart. For storefront features, confirm the Rivio theme app embed is enabled on the theme being tested.
Step-by-step instructions
- Open Settings → Payment step.
- Locate When no option applies.
- Enter a Message if shoppers should see an explanation.
- Leave it blank if you want the step skipped silently, as described by the interface.
- Save.
- Test a cart that matches none of your active payment options.
Screenshot to add: Settings → Payment step → When no option applies — show the relevant settings described above. Hide customer details, contact blocklists and verification codes.
Example and use case
A store with deposit offers only above 1000 can explain that no deposit offer is available for a smaller cart, while allowing checkout to continue.
Limitations and important behaviour
- The recorded help says a blank message skips the step and the shopper continues to checkout to pay in full.
- A fallback message does not change payment eligibility.
- Review this alongside COD availability settings rather than assuming the fallback disables every payment method.
Test and confirm the result
Test both blank and explanatory-message behaviour in a controlled session, then keep the version that matches your policy.
Save configuration changes before testing. A settings preview confirms presentation; inspect the storefront, checkout or Shopify order for the actual outcome described in this guide.
