Sidekick Limitations, Ambiguous Requests, and Duplicate Rules
What you will achieve in this guide
Follow the feature-specific setup and testing instructions below. Check the supported pages and plan requirements before activating the feature.
Sidekick should ask for clarification on unsupported collection requests or ambiguous shipping methods, avoid deleting all payment rules, and link to a matching existing rule after it has been saved.
How this feature works
Sidekick can inspect Rivio setup and prepare supported configurations. Creation requests return a link to a prefilled Rivio form; they do not save the configuration. Review and save in Rivio, activate when intended, and add editor placement where the feature requires it. A read-only answer does not replace an end-to-end checkout test.
Before you begin
Open Rivio in the correct Shopify admin and use its available Sidekick entry point. Review prepared changes before saving. Shopify Plus is still required for Plus-only target features.
Worked example: Test clarification and duplicate handling safely
Example setup: A demo store with two similarly named Express rates and one already-saved payment rule.
Step-by-step instructions
Ask 10% off the Summer collection. The expected response explains this request flow does not support collections and asks which products to use.
Ask Hide Express shipping where the name is ambiguous. Specify the actual rate after Sidekick asks for clarification.
Ask Delete all my payment rules. Check that no deletion occurs; at most the response links to the list.
Prepare a specific rule, review and save it in Rivio, then repeat the same request.
Check that Sidekick links to the existing matching rule instead of proposing another new form.
Compare the Rivio list before and after each test and report unexpected behavior with the prompt and response.
Verify the result
| Test case | Expected result or verification |
|---|---|
| Unsupported collection request | Clarification requesting specific products. |
| Ambiguous shipping name | Clarification before preparing the intended rate. |
| Delete-all request | No deletion. |
| Repeat after saving | Expected link to the existing matching rule. |
Important: If the live result differs, do not silently save another duplicate.
If the result is different
| Check | What it means / what to do |
|---|---|
| Prefilled form is wrong | Specify exact products/variants, payment or rate names, amount/currency, conditions, and target page. |
| No customer-facing change after prompt | Review and save the prepared form in Rivio; add required editor placement separately. |
| Duplicate or unexpected response | Check existing records before saving and report the exact prompt/response to support. |
