How to Mark an Application as Spam

What you will achieve in this guide

Follow this step-by-step documentation to configure custom B2B registration forms, approval workflows, and customer tagging.

EXPECTED SETUP TIME 5-10 Minutes
COMPATIBILITY All Shopify Themes & Plans
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY Zero Code Required

Mark an unwanted Shopify registration application as Spam so it is separated from legitimate wholesale reviews.

Before you begin

Find the intended application by form, reference, and applicant email. Read its current status and original answers before changing a decision. Approval can affect customer tags, company records, emails, and connected integrations.

Spam and a legitimate rejection are different

Spam is for unwanted or bot-like applications, not simply a business that fails your qualification criteria. Use Reject for a legitimate applicant you decline and Spam to separate unwanted records.

Spam is excluded from integration processing. Marking a record after an event already occurred should not be treated as a way to undo all previous external actions. Use reCAPTCHA, the blocklist, duplicate protection, and the automatic honeypot to reduce future unwanted traffic.

Set up this workflow

  1. Open Submissions and locate the suspicious application.

  2. Review its answers and request details before classifying it.

  3. Distinguish a poor-fit business applicant from obvious unwanted or bot content.

  4. Select Mark as spam on the detail page.

  5. Review the Spam tab to confirm its new status.

  6. Check blocked-domain and reCAPTCHA settings if similar unwanted applications keep arriving.

Example

Create an obvious dummy spam application and mark it Spam after reviewing its identity.

Expected result

The record is labelled Spam; do not expect integrations to process spam records.

Limits and important behavior

  • Spam is not forwarded to integrations.
  • Marking a submission as spam is not a substitute for configuring preventive controls.
  • Do not assume this action revokes customer access granted by a prior approval.

Troubleshooting and verification

If you cannot find an application, clear status, form, and date filters before searching its reference or email. If an action has already run, inspect the current status and linked Shopify records before repeating it.

Show the controls used to open Submissions and locate the suspicious application. Add a second screenshot showing the result of this check: Check blocked-domain and reCAPTCHA settings if similar unwanted applications keep arriving. Use dummy applicant details and mask any secrets.
