Shopify Product Bundles Not Working? Troubleshooting Guide
What you will achieve in this guide
Follow the feature-specific setup and testing instructions below. Check the supported pages and plan requirements before activating the feature.
A bundle can fail to expand when the wrong parent variant is selected, component settings are incorrect, or the weighted component total exceeds the parent price. Start with the mapping and Cart preview.
How this feature works
Shoppers add the selected parent bundle variant. Rivio maps that parent to component variants and quantities. Each component Price override is per unit; a blank override uses its regular price. Multiply price by quantity for every component before adding the total. Components must total no more than the parent price for expansion.
Before you begin
Prepare a dedicated parent bundle product variant and the exact available component variants. Record the parent price, component quantities, and any per-unit price overrides before testing.
Worked example: Fix a bundle that remains one parent line
Example setup: Parent Starter Kit $25; component total $26 caused by a per-unit price change.
Troubleshooting steps
Open the bundle and confirm the exact parent variant is mapped and the configuration is Active.
Check each component variant, Qty, and Price. If Price is blank, inspect its regular current catalog price.
Multiply every per-unit price by Qty and add the results. In this example, 2 × $10.50 + $5 = $26.
Compare the $26 components with the $25 parent: the components exceed the parent price, so expansion is prevented.
Correct the intended component overrides or parent catalog price so the weighted total is no greater than the parent. Save the relevant changes.
Review Cart preview, then add the parent to a fresh cart and verify expansion at checkout.
Verify the result
| Test case | Expected result or verification |
|---|---|
| $26 components with $25 parent | A single parent line remains under the guard. |
| $25 components with $25 parent | The pricing guard is satisfied; verify the mapped components expand. |
| Later catalog price change | Recalculate blank-price components and repeat the test. |
Important: Do not fix this by applying an unrelated percentage discount: first correct the bundle’s own price relationship.
If the result is different
| Check | What it means / what to do |
|---|---|
| Parent remains one line | Confirm the mapped parent variant and calculate every component Price × Qty against the parent price. |
| Wrong quantities or prices | Check selected component variants, quantities, per-unit overrides, and blank-price regular catalog values. |
| Breaks after a catalog change | Recalculate the price guard and retest a fresh cart, including each supported market/currency. |
