How to Analyze Multi-Step Form Drop-Off
What you will achieve in this guide
Follow this step-by-step documentation to configure custom B2B registration forms, approval workflows, and customer tagging.
Identify where applicants stop progressing through a multi-step Shopify wholesale registration form.
Before you begin
Select the form and reporting period you want to inspect. Use a known storefront visit and application as a test, and keep visit, submission, approval, and sales counts separate when interpreting results.
Progression shows where to investigate
A multi-step funnel shows recorded progression from a form view through steps to submission. A large reduction before a step identifies a useful place to inspect question clarity, required uploads, layout, or buyer effort.
It does not by itself prove a technical failure. Compare the actual form version, mobile behavior, and required answers, then make one targeted change and observe new traffic rather than repeatedly editing the whole form.
Set up this workflow
Select the multi-step form in Analytics.
Choose a period with sufficient recent traffic.
Review the views, individual step progress, and final submissions.
Find the step with the largest observed reduction in progression.
Inspect its required inputs, clarity, file requests, and mobile usability.
Change one source of friction and compare new step progression after fresh visits accumulate.
Example
Use a three-step demo form: Contact, Business, Documents. Complete one test and deliberately stop another before Documents.
Expected result
The funnel can help locate progression loss; small controlled tests demonstrate the report rather than prove a business trend.
Limits and important behavior
- A step with fewer recorded visits does not by itself prove a technical error.
- Check whether the form changed during the comparison period.
- Conditional visibility does not support skipping steps.
Troubleshooting and verification
If figures seem inconsistent, compare the same form and period and confirm that the tested page uses that form’s slug. Tracking can fail without blocking submission, so the inbox and analytics do not have to match exactly.
