How to Enable reCAPTCHA on a Form

What you will achieve in this guide

Follow this step-by-step documentation to configure custom B2B registration forms, approval workflows, and customer tagging.

EXPECTED SETUP TIME 5-10 Minutes
COMPATIBILITY All Shopify Themes & Plans
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY Zero Code Required

Enable the per-form reCAPTCHA protection option after configuring valid Google reCAPTCHA v2 keys.

Before you begin

Choose a test form and review the current protection settings before changing them. Use dummy submissions to check allowed and blocked cases. Google reCAPTCHA keys are configured separately from enabling reCAPTCHA on each form.

Shop keys and the form toggle are separate

The app Settings hold the v2 keys, while Advanced form settings determine whether that form uses reCAPTCHA. A configured key without the per-form toggle is not the same as a protected form.

Test a required challenge and then complete it with valid inputs. If the challenge fails to appear or verify, compare the registered domain and key type before turning off other protections.

Set up this workflow

  1. Open app Settings and confirm the v2 site and secret keys are configured.

  2. Open the form Settings and select Advanced.

  3. Locate Spam protection and enable reCAPTCHA.

  4. Save the form configuration.

  5. Open the actual storefront page and complete the challenge.

  6. Submit valid data and confirm the application reaches Submissions.

Example

Enable reCAPTCHA on Demo Wholesale Application after configuring v2 keys. Test submission before and after completing the challenge.

Expected result

The protected form requires a successful challenge as part of a valid submission.

Limits and important behavior

  • A per-form toggle cannot replace missing or invalid shop-wide keys.
  • Check the registered domain when the checkbox reports a domain error.
  • The honeypot remains a separate always-on protection.

Troubleshooting and verification

If the challenge is absent, inspect the specific form’s reCAPTCHA toggle as well as the shop-level keys. If it appears but rejects valid attempts, compare the storefront domain and key type. Saving Google keys alone does not enable every form.

Screenshots to add

Screenshot placeholder: Capture the relevant app screen for “How to Enable reCAPTCHA on a Form” after completing the setup. Show the controls used to open app Settings and confirm the v2 site and secret keys are configured. Add a second screenshot showing the result of this check: Submit valid data and confirm the application reaches Submissions. Use dummy applicant details and mask any secrets.
