How to Block Email Domains

What you will achieve in this guide

Follow this step-by-step documentation to configure custom B2B registration forms, approval workflows, and customer tagging.

EXPECTED SETUP TIME 5-10 Minutes
COMPATIBILITY All Shopify Themes & Plans
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY Zero Code Required

Reject Shopify registration submissions from listed email domains using the app’s shop-wide domain blocklist.

Before you begin

Choose a test form and review the current protection settings before changing them. Use dummy submissions to check allowed and blocked cases. Google reCAPTCHA keys are configured separately from enabling reCAPTCHA on each form.

Blocking prevents submission from listed domains

The domain blocklist refuses applications using the specified email domains. Enter domains using the format shown by the settings helper and decide whether you are blocking known unwanted sources or excluding all free-email addresses.

A legitimate small business may use a free provider. If those applicants should still be reviewed, use an email-domain manual-review rule instead of blocking them from applying.

Set up this workflow

  1. Open app Settings and find Blocked email domains.

  2. Enter the domains to block using one per line or the separator format shown in the app.

  3. Review whether the list should include only known unwanted domains or also free-email providers.

  4. Save the setting.

  5. Test one blocked address and one permitted business address.

  6. Confirm the blocked submission is rejected while the permitted address can complete the application.

Example

On a disposable test form, block a selected email domain and compare an address on that domain with an allowed address you control.

Expected result

The blocked-domain test is refused while a valid allowed address can continue.

Limits and important behavior

  • The recorded helper text states subdomains are matched too.
  • Leave the list empty to allow all domains.
  • Use manual-review rules instead when you want to inspect applicants from a domain rather than block them outright.

Troubleshooting and verification

If a legitimate buyer is blocked, compare the portion after @ with the saved blocked-domain entry. Test one blocked and one allowed address. Review the business policy before removing a shared domain restriction, because that change can affect other forms.

Add a second screenshot showing the result of this check: Confirm the blocked submission is rejected while the permitted address can complete the application. Use dummy applicant details and mask any secrets.
