Understand tax messaging and the amounts shown before checkout

Explain taxes to shoppers without implying that a wording setting changes tax calculations.

Before you start

Open Settings → Payment step → Tax note in your store. Use the current saved configuration and a controlled test cart. For storefront features, confirm the Rivio theme app embed is enabled on the theme being tested.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open Settings → Payment step.
  2. Under Tax note, enable Show a tax note under the payment options when useful.
  3. Enter a concise message such as Taxes computed later.
  4. Save and review the preview.
  5. Continue a test journey to Shopify checkout with a delivery address.
  6. Compare the final tax and payment totals with the earlier popup figures.

Screenshot to add: Settings → Payment step → Tax note — show the relevant settings described above. Hide customer details, contact blocklists and verification codes.

Example and use case

A store whose prices exclude tax shows Taxes computed later so a shopper understands why checkout may add tax after address entry.

Limitations and important behaviour

  • The interface says this changes nothing about the split: the deposit uses prices Shopify supplies.
  • Tax may not be known until checkout has a delivery address.
  • This setting does not configure tax rates, exemptions or registrations.

Test and confirm the result

Test destinations with your actual Shopify tax configuration and check that the note explains the observed totals.

Save configuration changes before testing. A settings preview confirms presentation; inspect the storefront, checkout or Shopify order for the actual outcome described in this guide.
