Understand deposits, upfront payments and the remaining COD balance
Distinguish the money paid at checkout from the amount still due on delivery.
Before you start
Open Features → COD verification → Payment options in your store. Use the current saved configuration and a controlled test cart. For storefront features, confirm the Rivio theme app embed is enabled on the theme being tested.
Step-by-step instructions
- Open the relevant payment option and note its amount type.
- Review its preview: Pays now and Pays on delivery.
- Check any discount and the eligible cart amount.
- Complete a test checkout with the option.
- Inspect the Shopify order payment information after the balance update.
- Use the recorded outstanding amount in your fulfilment process.
Screenshot to add: Features → COD verification → Payment options — show the relevant settings described above. Hide customer details, contact blocklists and verification codes.
Example and use case
For a simple 1000 order with a 300 deposit and no other adjustments, 700 remains due. Reconcile actual order totals when shipping, tax or discounts apply.
Limitations and important behaviour
- A successful verification is not a payment.
- An option preview is not a payment receipt.
- Do not mark the full order paid merely because a deposit was collected.
Test and confirm the result
Compare the checkout charge, recorded payment and outstanding balance before fulfilling a real deposit order.
Save configuration changes before testing. A settings preview confirms presentation; inspect the storefront, checkout or Shopify order for the actual outcome described in this guide.
